Alliance supports boreal forest campaign

The Alliance is supporting the drive, led in Canada by JP Gladu, to conserve Canada’s boreal forest for future generations, and to ensure forest industries and the communities that rely upon them have a sustainable future.
“The businesses and Indigenous leaders joining this table have a shared interest in sustainability,” said Gladu. “We want to encourage collaboration and we want to elevate economic opportunity that nurtures lands and cultures across the Boreal.”
Key points that we back:

  • Supporting and increasing investments in Indigenous-led conservation (including Indigenous-led land-use planning, Indigenous protected and conserved areas, and Indigenous Guardian programs);
  • Empowering an Indigenous economy via evolving business and engagement practices across sectors;
  • Addressing climate change and declining biodiversity by empowering and supporting Indigenous-led protected and conserved areas across Canada;
  • Contributing to effective and long-lasting stewardship of Canada’s Boreal;
  • Creating unique pathways toward reconciliation; and
  • Reducing inequalities across Indigenous Nations throughout the Boreal.
